The Northwest Territories (NWT) is undergoing a major economic transformation.

In the NWT, existing diamond mines are currently scheduled to close by 2031. At least 29% of the NWT's GDP comes from diamond mining, and changes in GDP are already having impacts on communities, businesses, and people.

Reimagining Closure is a joint initiative, funded by De Beers and Rio Tinto, and facilitated by Environmental Resources Management (ERM) and Coeuraj, that engages impacted communities, industries, and governments in a collaborative process to explore how mine closure can benefit present and future socioeconomic opportunities in the Slave Geological Province.

The Reimagining Closure Report captures key insights, themes, and outcomes that emerged during the project's two-year run, and puts forward 40+ innovative ideas on how reimagining mining can help build better futures for all involved.
