A Systemic Approach to a Global Crisis

Ten years ago, the founders of our practice came together on the idea that, organizations equipped with a systemic approach for complex problems would have the advantage in a world rife with complexity, dissonance and uncertainty. We knew that there would be “ruptures” where solutions like this would need to be on hand to solve adaptive challenges in periods of urgency. The founders went on a worldwide search for these solutions. And if we had found what we were looking for we wouldn’t have made a ten-year investment into designing, iterating and market testing new solutions.

A resilient and sovereign Canada will rely on a systemic approach to investment. The geopolitical shift currently underway is an opportunity for governments and organizations around the world to fundamentally re-think how investing works. The scale and complexity of the shifting global context invites a change in both mental and operating models. A systemic framework for analysis turns what appears to be a problem into opportunity.

Canada's unique orientation to this shift necessitates the need to build resilience across the land-base. This is a complex challenge and requires an investment thesis that is fit to address this complexity. Relying on conventional wisdom and past practices will likely result in diminishing returns. This moment is ripe to rethink how investment works. Any response other than a systemic approach decreases opportunity and increases risk.

A systemic approach to investment will in turn rely on the collaboration of private, First Nations, and family office capital in financing assets that generate economic value, social cohesion, and national resilience over multi-generational time horizons.

Governance is the conversation of day. Leadership is what is required to mobilize past the current architecture, making way for what is needed to the challenges at hand.

Adaptive Leadership / Governance and multi-party alignment in complex environments. Coeuraj operates where mandates overlap, interests diverge, and decisions must hold across jurisdictions, institutions, and systems.
